Job Summary
The HVAC Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in multifamily residential construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, construction drawings, and project specifications, with a focus on delivering timely and precise estimates that support project bidding and execution.
Key Responsibilities Include: (But not limited to the following)
Estimating & Proposal Development
- Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and scope documents to prepare detailed HVAC cost estimates.
- Quantify materials, labor, and equipment required for multifamily housing projects.
- Develop and submit competitive bids and proposals in coordination with the sales and project management teams.
Project Evaluation
- Conduct site visits (as needed) to assess project conditions and verify scope.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and recommend cost-effective solutions.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain organized records of estimates, assumptions, and pricing data.
- Prepare and present estimate summaries and cost breakdowns to internal stakeholders.
- Track historical cost data to support future estimating accuracy and benchmarking.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to align estimates with project goals.
- Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing and availability.
- Support handoff meetings to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to project execution.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required with experience).
Experience:
- 3–5+ years of HVAC estimating experience, preferably in multifamily or commercial construction.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, ductwork, piping, and mechanical codes.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., FastEST, QuoteSoft, Trimble) and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication skills—able to interface with customers, field staff, and subcontractors.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
