Our client has built a reputation as one of Texas' premier mechanical service providers. Our team delivers commercial HVAC service, maintenance agreements, energy solutions, building automation, repairs, and projects for commercial, institutional, and industrial customers throughout Texas.
We are investing heavily in the growth of our Houston operation and are seeking an experienced Service Manager to help lead the next phase of expansion.
This is a leadership role for someone who wants to build a team, improve performance, develop technicians, strengthen customer relationships, and help drive rapid growth in one of the largest HVAC markets in the country.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Service Manager is responsible for the leadership, performance, profitability, and growth of the Houston Service Department.
This individual will lead technicians, support customer retention efforts, improve field productivity, strengthen accountability, and help build the operational foundation necessary to support significant future growth.
The successful candidate will be highly visible in the field, actively engaged with customers, and committed to developing a high-performing service culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Culture
• Lead, mentor, and develop service technicians.
• Create a culture of accountability, professionalism, and customer service.
• Conduct regular technician ride-alongs and field visits.
• Coach employees and address performance issues promptly.
• Recruit, interview, hire, and retain top field talent.
Operations Management
• Manage daily service operations and technician scheduling.
• Ensure labor is deployed efficiently and productively.
• Establish and maintain service department processes and standards.
• Lead project, repair, and service review meetings.
• Monitor technician utilization, billable efficiency, and productivity metrics.
• Drive continuous operational improvement.
Customer Relations
• Build strong relationships with key customers.
• Assist with resolving customer concerns and escalations.
• Support customer retention and service agreement growth.
• Participate in customer meetings and strategic account reviews.
Financial Performance
• Own service department profitability.
• Monitor labor performance, job costing, and gross margin.
• Identify and address jobs that are trending over budget.
• Review financial performance and implement corrective actions.
• Support annual planning, budgeting, and forecasting efforts.
Growth & Business Development
• Support sales efforts through technical expertise and operational execution.
• Partner with the sales team to ensure successful onboarding of new customers.
• Help prepare the organization for rapid growth in service agreements, repairs, and projects.
• Develop staffing plans to support future expansion.
QUALIFICATIONS
• 7+ years of commercial HVAC service experience.
• 3+ years of service management or service operations leadership experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing HVAC technicians.
• Strong understanding of service profitability, labor utilization, customer retention, and repair conversion.
• Experience leading teams through growth, change, or operational improvement.
• Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
• Comfortable making difficult decisions and holding people accountable.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service management software.
PREFERRED
• Commercial HVAC, Mechanical Contractor, Building Services, or Industrial Service background.
• Experience managing 10+ technicians.
• Experience with service agreements and recurring maintenance programs.
• Experience with COINS or similar ERP systems.
COMPENSATION
• Competitive Base Salary ($130,000–$160,000 DOE)
