The HVAC I is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance, repair, and testing of mechanical systems and equipment — including steam, hot water, chilled water, and air conditioning systems — throughout State Farm Arena. This role supports the Engineering department by performing hands-on preventive and corrective maintenance while adhering to OSHA guidelines and Turner Properties safety standards. Success in this role means reliable system performance, a safe working environment, and seamless guest and operational experiences on both event and non-event days.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities (55%)
- Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical components and systems, including HVAC, steam, hot water, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment to ensure proper operation and reliability.
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment according to established schedules, completing all required work order documentation accurately and on time.
- Identify and correct equipment hazards; ensure all equipment is properly tagged and secured before maintenance or repair work is performed.
- Conduct safety audits to identify deficiencies and unsafe practices, taking immediate corrective action to maintain a safe working environment.
- Carry assigned tools at all times while on duty and maintain proper dress attire per department standards, including required uniforms and footwear.
Secondary Responsibilities (25%)
- Coordinate work schedules and activities directed by the HVAC Lead or Chief Engineer, traveling to various locations throughout the facility and grounds as needed.
- Assist management with safety training, planning, safety improvements, record keeping, and enforcement of OSHA guidelines and facility safety policies.
- Prepare and assist with purchase orders for materials, tools, equipment, spare parts, and supplies as needed.
- Communicate and exchange relevant technical information with consulting engineers and contractors as directed by the HVAC Lead or Chief Engineer.
Tertiary Responsibilities (15%)
- Maintain accurate records, schedules, and charts to support timely preventive maintenance and repair of components, systems, and structures.
- Stay current with new technologies and industry best practices to improve departmental operations; participate in available training programs for continuous self-development.
- Submit ideas and suggestions to management to help plan work schedules and assignments in alignment with operations and maintenance requirements.
Additional Responsibilities (5% )
- Respond to on-call needs as required, including availability on a 24/7 basis for urgent maintenance or repair situations.
- Provide cross-functional support to other Engineering team members during high-demand event days or as directed by supervision.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or technical training a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical plant or facilities maintenance experience.
- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC, steam, hot water, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment.
- Familiarity with maintenance tools, test instruments, and proper repair procedures.
- Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and safety equipment requirements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks on schedule.
- Must be available for on-call duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Refrigerant Handling Certification or equivalent.
- Experience working in a large-scale arena, stadium, or commercial facility environment.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or work order platforms.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
