About the role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lead Estimator to join our Commercial Team, where you’ll play a key role in leading the estimating efforts across commercial, industrial, and mechanical projects. In this leadership role, you will oversee all aspects of project estimation, ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with company strategy. You’ll collaborate closely with the preconstruction team, clients, and subcontractors to develop winning proposals, identify cost efficiencies, and guide the estimating team in delivering consistent, high-quality work.
As the Lead Estimator, you’ll bring technical expertise, sound judgment, and a strategic mindset to every bid. You’ll also play a key role in leading a team of estimators, refining processes, and supporting leadership with data-driven insights that drive profitability and project success, while championing our company’s mission and values.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating team through all phases of project estimation, from conceptual budgets to final bids.
- Review, validate, and approve detailed cost estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical and plumbing projects, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Collaborate with preconstruction, project management, and executive leadership to develop and execute effective bid strategies.
- Analyze project documents and specifications to identify cost risks, scope gaps, and opportunities for value engineering.
- Source, negotiate, and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure competitive pricing and quality standards.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to estimators, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and professional growth.
- Present final estimates and bid summaries to company leadership, offering clear insights and recommendations.
- Stay current on market trends, material pricing, and construction methods to maintain a competitive edge.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to estimating processes, tools, and databases for greater efficiency and consistency.
- Support project teams in change order estimating and post-bid cost analysis.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Lead Estimator or Senior Estimator within the mechanical, plumbing or construction industry. (Preferred)
- 5+ years of experience leading and preparing complex estimates. (Preferred)
- Advanced proficiency in estimating principles, methods, and software.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities with experience managing or guiding estimating teams.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency under deadlines.
