Position Summary The Estimator II is responsible for independently managing estimating and proposal development for Air Solutions projects. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, project requirements, and estimating processes. The Estimator II works closely with the sales team, customers, and manufacturers to deliver accurate, timely, and competitive proposals while supporting project success from initial concept through order entry.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform detailed takeoffs and develop accurate estimates in accordance with McMillan James standards
- Independently review and interpret building plans, specifications, and project requirements
- Select appropriate equipment and systems based on project needs, design intent, and budget
- Collaborate with sales team to develop proposals, pricing strategies, and value engineering solutions
- Manage and maintain job files throughout the project lifecycle with minimal oversight
- Support project optimization through specification review, redesigns, and alternative solutions
- Prepare and validate all project-related data for order entry and submittals
- Coordinate with manufacturers and vendors on equipment selection, pricing, and lead times
- Track and manage multiple projects, ensuring deadlines and customer expectations are met
- Communicate proactively with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain alignment
- Mentor and provide guidance to Estimator I team members as needed
- Continuously improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, and technical knowledge
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
- 2–5 years of experience in estimating, HVAC, construction, or related industry
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, equipment selection, and system design
- Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications independently
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with estimating software and ERP systems preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision
