Commercial HVAC Estimator (Light Commercial Focus)
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Commercial HVAC Estimator to support bidding and preconstruction efforts for light commercial HVAC projects. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for projects such as small offices, retail spaces, medical offices, tenant improvements, and similar facilities. The ideal candidate understands HVAC systems, construction documents, and vendor pricing, and can work efficiently in a fast-paced bid environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed HVAC cost estimates for light commercial projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Review and interpret plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs for HVAC systems (ductwork, piping, equipment, controls, insulation, etc.)
- Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes
- Develop bid proposals, value engineering options, and alternates when required
- Coordinate with project managers, operations, and field leadership to ensure constructability and accuracy
- Track bid deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously
- Maintain pricing databases, labor units, and estimating templates
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site walks as needed
- Assist with turnover from estimating to project management after award

Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience estimating commercial HVAC projects (light commercial preferred)
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, materials, and installation methods
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Trimble, FastPIPE/FastDUCT, or similar)
- Strong math, organizational, and time-management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and meet tight bid deadlines
