Role Description This full-time, on-site Estimator role is based in the New York City Metropolitan area (specifically New Jersey) and focuses on preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for building automation projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project plans, specifications, and scope documents; performing quantity take-offs; and developing detailed material, labor, and subcontractor cost breakdowns. The Estimator collaborates closely with engineering, project management, and sales teams to clarify requirements, identify value engineering opportunities, and support bid proposals. Responsibilities also involve maintaining pricing databases, requesting and analyzing vendor and subcontractor quotes, and preparing formal estimate and proposal documentation. The role requires diligent attention to detail, adherence to company standards, and consistent communication with internal stakeholders and clients throughout the pre-construction phase.
Qualifications
- Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate estimates.
- Experience with estimating practices, including quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and preparation of bids or proposals for construction or building automation projects.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and estimating software; strong numerical and analytical skills for cost modeling and budget development.
- Solid understanding of building automation systems, HVAC controls, or related low-voltage systems; experience with Siemens or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with engineers, project managers, vendors, and clients.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple estimates, deadlines, and documentation in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work on-site in the New York City Metropolitan Area and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Relevant education in engineering, construction management, estimating, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
- Prior experience in construction, mechanical contracting, or building automation estimating is highly beneficial.
ECS Utilizes Bidtracer as our CRM, and we would like a candidate who after training can self-direct and expand the automated bidding templates and tools.
Compensation depends on qualifications- Junior role starting at $32 an hour. 50% medical and other benefits available after 6 months of employment.
