HVAC Estimator
Location: Houston, TX
Salary: $80,000 - $120,000
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented HVAC Estimator to support commercial new construction and retrofit projects in the Houston market. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project scope, and supporting preconstruction efforts from conceptual budgeting through hard bids.
The ideal candidate has experience estimating commercial HVAC systems and is comfortable working across a variety of scopes including ductwork, piping, equipment, and controls. This individual will partner closely with project managers, field teams, and vendors to ensure competitive and complete proposals.
This organization is a full-service HVAC contractor offering estimating, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and ongoing service. Their capabilities include chilled water systems, sheet metal fabrication, BAS/controls, commercial refrigeration, and air-side systems across new construction and retrofit projects in the Houston area.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed HVAC estimates from conceptual budgets to hard bids
- Perform takeoffs for ductwork, piping, equipment, and insulation
- Review drawings and specifications to identify scope gaps and constructability issues
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Develop labor, material, and equipment cost breakdowns
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams to validate scope and execution strategy
- Identify value engineering opportunities and potential project risks
- Support bid submissions and turnover to operations teams
- Maintain estimating data, cost history, and pricing databases
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in HVAC or mechanical estimating
- Experience estimating commercial construction projects
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems (RTUs, VRF, chillers, split systems, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software and Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred
- Experience with sheet metal, piping, or fabrication estimating
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar takeoff tools
- Exposure to chilled water systems and controls (BAS)
- Experience in the Houston construction market
- Background working for a mechanical contractor
