The Opportunity
A premier Midwest commercial HVAC and mechanical services organization is seeking a Vice President of Business Excellence based in Chicago.
This is not a maintenance leadership role. This is a highly visible operational leadership opportunity inside a $100M+ business that is scaling aggressively and investing heavily in infrastructure, leadership, and long-term growth.
The VP of Business Excellence will work directly alongside the President and executive leadership team and is viewed as a key part of the company’s long-term leadership succession strategy. This individual will gain exposure across every major area of the business - operations, service, project execution, financial performance, organizational leadership, and strategic growth initiatives.
For the right leader, this role creates a legitimate pathway toward future enterprise leadership and full P&L responsibility.
What You’ll Own
This role is centered around driving operational excellence, accountability, organizational alignment, and scalable growth across the business.
Key focus areas include:
Strategic Execution
Partner directly with executive leadership to execute key initiatives, improve organizational alignment, support growth strategies, and strengthen operational performance across the company.
Operational Excellence
Lead initiatives focused on project execution, service operations, field performance, operational consistency, customer delivery, and process improvement across multiple business units and departments.
Financial Performance
Drive improvements around forecasting, KPI visibility, margin performance, operational reporting, cost management, and overall business performance. This role requires someone who understands how operational execution impacts profitability and enterprise value.
Leadership & Talent Development
Coach, develop, and elevate leaders throughout the organization while helping build a culture centered around accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and people-first leadership.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Operate as a true business leader across Operations, Service, Sales, Finance, HR, and field leadership teams to solve complex challenges, improve execution, and remove organizational bottlenecks.
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a hands-on operator with strong executive presence, high business acumen, and the ability to lead both strategically and tactically.
The ideal background includes:
- 8-15+ years of progressive leadership experience within commercial HVAC, mechanical services, industrial services, or a related field
- Strong operational leadership experience inside a service-driven or project-driven organization
- Proven ability to improve performance, drive accountability, and influence teams across an organization
- Strong financial and operational acumen, including exposure to P&L performance, forecasting, KPIs, and operational metrics
- Executive-level communication skills with the ability to build credibility from the boardroom to the job site
- A growth-oriented leader seeking a long-term path toward enterprise leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field required
- MBA or advanced business education is a plus
- Strong understanding of commercial mechanical services, operations, project management, and service delivery
- This is an in-person leadership role based in the Chicago market
