Role: HVAC Estimator
Location: Manhattan, NY
Salary: $125,000-$150,000 + Benefits
We’re partnered with a well-established, growing mechanical contractor delivering complex commercial HVAC projects across the five boroughs of New York City. With a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming work, they are looking to add an experienced HVAC Estimator to their preconstruction team.
This is a key hire for the business — someone who can take ownership of estimates, support strategic bid decisions, and contribute directly to winning high-value commercial projects.
The HVAC Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed, competitive, and accurate estimates for commercial mechanical projects ranging from mid-sized fit-outs to large ground-up developments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for ductwork, piping, equipment, and controls.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare conceptual, design-build, and hard-bid estimates.
- Develop detailed labor and material pricing breakdowns.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs.
- Identify value engineering opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and senior leadership.
- Assist in turnover meetings upon project award.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC estimating experience
- Strong knowledge of ductwork, hydronic piping, RTUs, chillers, boilers, VRF systems
- Understanding of NYC building codes and local market pricing
- Experience in union labor environments preferred
- Proficiency with estimating software (FastEST, Trimble, Bluebeam, or similar)
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
