Senior Mechanical Engineer – HVAC (Commercial Buildings)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina | Hybrid (1 required in-office day per week)
Compensation: ~$135K+ (flexible based on experience)
We are partnering with an established MEP engineering firm to identify a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team following the planned retirement of a long-tenured engineer.
This is a hands-on, individual contributor role focused on the design of HVAC systems for commercial buildings. The firm is seeking an experienced professional who enjoys technical production work, client collaboration, and project involvement—rather than people management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design HVAC systems for commercial and institutional buildings
- Perform load calculations and system layouts
- Coordinate with architects and project stakeholders
- Participate in client meetings and occasional site visits
- Support construction and field inspections as needed
Required Experience
- Significant experience (typically 15+ years) in commercial HVAC design
- Background working within an MEP consulting engineering environment
- Strong knowledge of hydronic systems (chilled water, hot water, steam)
- Experience with building automation systems
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit
- Comfortable working in a production-focused engineering role
Preferred Experience
- Healthcare or hospital project experience
- Experience using TRACE 700 for load calculations and/or energy modeling
Work Environment
- Hybrid schedule with one mandatory in-office day per week (Wednesdays)
- Minimal overnight travel
