We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the sales, delivery, and operational performance of our Building Automation division. This role blends strategic sales leadership, operational oversight, team management, and customer engagement to drive growth, quality, and efficiency across all controls projects and service offerings.
This is a pivotal leadership position for someone who understands both the commercial and technical sides of building automation and can develop a department that consistently meets revenue, margin, and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership
- Develop and execute sales strategies to grow revenue across new construction, retrofit, service, and modernization markets.
- Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with contractors, engineering firms, end users, and key accounts.
- Support account executives with pricing, technical guidance, proposals, and customer presentations.
- Forecast and manage departmental sales pipeline, ensuring accurate reporting and predictable performance.
- Influence project specifications and position the organization as a preferred controls provider.
Operational Management
- Oversee all controls projects from sales turnover through engineering, installation, programming, commissioning, and closeout.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Implement operational processes, templates, and best practices to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Monitor workload, staffing needs, labor planning, and resource allocation across the controls team.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, delivery, customer satisfaction, and technical execution.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, project managers, programmers, technicians, and support staff.
- Conduct regular coaching, training, performance reviews, and career development planning.
- Build a positive, collaborative, accountable department culture focused on quality and results.
- Recruit and onboard new talent to support growth and emerging capabilities.
Financial & Business Management
- Manage departmental P&L including revenue targets, margins, operational expenses, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Oversee procurement, subcontractor management, and vendor partnerships to ensure cost‑effective project delivery.
- Review and approve estimates, change orders, and project financial reports.
- Identify opportunities to expand offerings, improve profitability, or streamline operations.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary escalation point for high‑profile clients and critical issues.
- Ensure consistent communication, expectations management, and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in industry events, trade shows, and networking opportunities to elevate brand presence.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS) including engineering, project delivery, service, or sales.
- Proven leadership experience managing controls teams or departmental operations.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls integration, and BAS platforms.
- Demonstrated success in sales growth, customer management, and operational execution.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and collaborate with engineering, construction, and service groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience overseeing both technical operations and sales functions simultaneously.
- Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, forecasting, and P&L responsibility.
- Background working with large commercial, industrial, mission‑critical, or data center environments.
- Knowledge of controls networks, open protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.), and commissioning processes.
