Job Summary
The HVAC/Facilities Engineer is a versatile, hands-on professional responsible for maintaining the operational efficiency of all building systems and infrastructure. This role involves equipment maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting across a range of facility systems to ensure all MCNC facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational goals.
Responsibilities span HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general facilities maintenance, as well as providing field support for fiber deployment projects and network operations. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with operational awareness and is comfortable working independently at job sites, construction zones, and customer locations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct random inspections of MCNC-contracted construction crews for quality assurance.
Proactively monitor facilities and systems to identify required maintenance or repairs.
Assist in the selection and management of service vendors and contractors.
Repair or replace failed equipment as necessary.
Perform minor plumbing tasks such as unclogging drains and repairing leaks; escalate complex issues to vendors as needed.
Perform Minor Electrical Maintenance, Including
o
Replacing light bulbs and ballasts
o
Repairing or replacing lighting fixtures and outlets
o
Troubleshooting circuits, switches, and basic electrical panels
Support and maintain electrical systems and devices, including 3-phase and single-phase equipment.
Maintain and organize tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment in good working condition.
Operate (or be willing to learn to operate) forklifts and other equipment to assist with loading/unloading as needed.
Maintain facility records, service documentation, and vendor logs.
Participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours maintenance emergencies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Education Requirements
Associates degree (AAS) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in commercial HVAC systems and general facilities maintenance.
Proficient in PC use, including basic HTML and webpage management.
Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS).
Skilled in troubleshooting and servicing 3-phase and single-phase electrical systems.
