Estimator – HVAC & Piping

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced HVAC & Piping Estimator to join our preconstruction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and competitive bid proposals for mechanical construction projects. This role requires strong knowledge of HVAC and piping systems, construction drawings, estimating software, and mechanical construction practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC and piping systems from construction drawings and specifications.
- Prepare accurate and competitive bid proposals, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Review project drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to determine the complete project scope.
- Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotations into project estimates.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to ensure estimates reflect current labor rates, productivity, and project requirements.
- Maintain organized bid documentation and historical cost databases for future estimating.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and site walkthroughs.
- Support value engineering initiatives, design-build projects, and alternate pricing requests.
- Ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted within project deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of estimating experience with a mechanical contractor.
- Proven experience performing HVAC and piping quantity takeoffs.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction methods, materials, and installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications.
- Experience using estimating software such as Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with NYC prevailing wage requirements and union labor agreements.
- Experience estimating commercial, institutional, healthcare, or high-rise construction projects.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software.
