Role Description This is a full-time, on-site HVAC Commercial Estimator role based in Latham, NY. The HVAC Commercial Estimator will review plans and specifications, perform detailed takeoffs, and prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial HVAC projects. Responsibilities include analyzing mechanical drawings, selecting appropriate equipment and materials, and working with sales and engineering teams to develop competitive proposals. The role involves obtaining and evaluating vendor and subcontractor quotes, coordinating with contractors and internal stakeholders to clarify project scope, and revising estimates as project conditions change. The HVAC Commercial Estimator will also assist in value engineering, maintain estimating templates and cost databases, and support project handoff to operations for awarded jobs.
Qualifications
- Strong HVAC knowledge, including commercial systems, equipment selection, and familiarity with mechanical plans and specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and basic project management tools to prepare detailed cost estimates and proposals.
- Solid analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills to perform takeoffs, evaluate quotes, and develop accurate project budgets.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and vendors and to present estimates clearly.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in commercial HVAC estimating, contracting, or mechanical engineering is strongly preferred.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Working knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and basic construction practices relevant to HVAC projects.
