The Opportunity
In this role, you will design, coordinate, and support the installation of mechanical and electrical building systems that enable safe, reliable, and energy-efficient project delivery within Hitachi Energy’s North America Grid Integration business. You will develop HVAC and electrical power/lighting designs, create layouts and schematics in AutoCAD and Revit, and produce specifications and design documentation aligned to project needs.
Your work will bring multiple disciplines together—partnering with architects, structural engineers, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to integrate MEP systems into building designs and resolve interface/clash items. You will also support on-site activities such as reviewing shop drawings and RFIs, performing site visits, and supporting testing and commissioning—helping ensure systems are installed as intended and operate safely and effectively. Through engineering calculations (heat loads, pressure drop/head loss, equipment sizing/selection) and sustainability-focused design choices (energy-efficient HVAC and lighting, controls strategies, and water-saving fixtures), you will contribute to functionality, code compliance, and performance outcomes that matter to how critical infrastructure is delivered and operated.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Design HVAC and electrical power distribution/lighting systems, layouts, and schematics using AutoCAD and Revit to meet project requirements.
- Develop specifications and design documentation that support safe, functional, and energy-efficient building system installations.
- Coordinate across disciplines (architectural, structural, contractor, vendor) to integrate MEP systems and resolve interface/clash issues.
- Perform engineering calculations and equipment sizing/selection, including heat loads, pressure drop/head loss, and related performance studies.
- Support energy modeling activities and apply engineering judgment to optimize system performance, reliability, and lifecycle cost.
- Ensure designs, submittals, and installations align with applicable building codes, standards, and safety requirements, including fire/life safety interfaces where applicable.
- Review shop drawings and RFIs and provide site support through visits and workmanship verification during installation activities.
- Identify and implement sustainable solutions such as energy-efficient HVAC and lighting systems, controls strategies, and water-saving fixtures to support energy and water reduction targets where applicable.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Your Background
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- 5–10 years of experience in construction, facility management, or MEP design (years of experience commensurate with role level).
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and MEP/BIM modeling and coordination workflows.
- Sound understanding of HVAC, electrical power and lighting, fire protection interfaces, and energy management principles.
- Able to communicate effectively, solve problems, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders across design and construction phases.
- Demonstrated ownership and accountability for technical quality, deliverables, and deadlines; able to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
