We are seeking a HVAC Professional Engineer (PE) to help lead and grow our HVAC discipline.
This is a key role with leadership potential for someone who wants more responsibility than a typical design engineer position and who enjoys mentoring others and helping shape a department in a growing consulting firm.
Project Summary
The HVAC Project Lead will be responsible for leading HVAC system design on a variety of commercial and institutional projects, managing workload for our HVAC team, and coordinating with clients, architects, and internal disciplines. This role will initially manage our existing HVAC team and has growth potential for a senior leadership position as the department expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HVAC system design for commercial and institutional projects
- Perform load calculations, system selection, and equipment sizing
- Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit
- Review and mentor junior HVAC designers/engineers
- Coordinate with fire protection, plumbing, and electrical disciplines
- Participate in client meetings and project coordination calls
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (NC Mechanical Code, ASHRAE, etc.)
- Support long-term growth of the HVAC department
Qualifications
Required:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (NC or ability to obtain NC by reciprocity)
- 2–5 years of HVAC design experience in a consulting engineering environment
- Experience designing commercial HVAC systems (VAV, VRF, heat pump, RTU, chilled water, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Revit MEP and AutoCAD
- Strong communication and organization skills
Preferred:
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior engineers/designers
- Familiarity with fire protection and plumbing coordination
- Client-facing experience
- Desire to grow into a leadership role
