Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Division Manager to lead and grow our HVAC operations. The Division Manager will be responsible for delivering profitable projects and service work, ensuring operational excellence, managing P&L performance, developing business, and building a high-performing team. This role combines hands-on mechanical and technical knowledge with strategic leadership, project oversight, financial management, and customer relationship ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the HVAC division, including service, maintenance, installations, and retrofit projects to meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget targets.
- Own divisional P&L: develop budgets, monitor financial performance, implement cost controls, and deliver revenue and margin targets.
- Oversee project lifecycle from estimating and bidding through execution and closeout; ensure accurate estimates, schedules, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
- Drive business development efforts: identify growth opportunities, build relationships with clients, contractors, and partners, and support proposal development and contract negotiations.
- Hire, mentor, and develop field and office teams (project managers, technicians, foremen, estimators) to maintain high performance and retention.
- Implement and maintain operational processes and systems (work order management, dispatch, inventory control, technical documentation, and safety programs) to improve efficiency and service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, industry standards, environmental regulations, and company safety policies; promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with procurement and vendor partners to manage equipment sourcing, subcontracts, and supply chain issues to achieve cost-effective outcomes.
- Monitor performance metrics and produce regular reports for senior leadership highlighting financials, operations, backlog, and growth opportunities.
- Champion customer satisfaction through proactive communication, quality assurance, timely problem resolution, and long-term relationship management.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Systems, or related field preferred; equivalent technical training with progressive experience accepted.
- 7+ years of progressive HVAC experience with at least 35 years in a management or leadership role overseeing projects, service operations, or a trade division.
- Proven P&L ownership and financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and margin improvement.
- Strong background in HVAC systems, mechanical design, installation, maintenance practices, and relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, local codes).
- Demonstrated project management skills: estimating, scheduling, resource planning, contract administration, and risk management.
- Experience in operations and business development with a track record of winning business and growing revenue streams.
- Leadership and people management skills: ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain high-performing teams.
- Familiarity with industry software and systems such as estimating tools, CMMS/ERP, scheduling and reporting platforms.
- Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., EPA 608, NATE, PMP, HVAC/R license) and strong commitment to safety programs.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, and a valid drivers license for field visits.
