Senior Mechanical Estimator – HVAC / Plumbing / Piping Construction

Compensation: $125,000 – $175,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus (DOE)
About the Opportunity
A large mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join its growing New York operations team. This position will lead preconstruction efforts and drive estimating strategy for complex mechanical construction projects across the NYC market, supporting pursuits from conceptual planning through final bid submission and negotiated work.
This role is ideal for an estimator with strong experience in commercial, high-rise, healthcare, mission-critical, infrastructure, and large-scale building projects who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys collaborating directly with operations and executive leadership teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead complete estimating efforts for mechanical construction pursuits including HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and related systems
- Review design drawings, specifications, and contract documents to establish project scope and risk exposure
- Develop conceptual budgets, ROM estimates, GMP pricing packages, and detailed hard-bid estimates
- Coordinate subcontractor/vendor outreach and perform scope leveling and bid analysis
- Prepare quantity takeoffs, labor projections, equipment costs, and pricing strategies
- Partner with operations teams to develop execution plans and preconstruction schedules
- Identify value engineering solutions and constructability improvements during design phases
- Participate in client meetings, proposal presentations, and pre-award discussions
- Maintain estimating standards, historical cost data, and market pricing trends
- Support transition of awarded projects into operations through turnover and planning meetings
Preferred Background
- 4+ years of mechanical estimating experience within the construction industry
- Experience supporting large commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, data center, institutional, high-rise, or industrial projects
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water piping, plumbing, sheet metal, and mechanical equipment installations
- Proven success managing estimates ranging from $5M–$100M+ project values preferred
- Experience working with NYC building environments, union labor considerations, and complex project delivery methods is highly desirable
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff tools such as Accubid, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, Bluebeam, Trimble, or equivalent platforms
- Strong communication, planning, and leadership skills
