We are seeking an experienced
Senior Estimator to lead estimating efforts for mechanical construction projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate, competitive bids while providing leadership and technical expertise across multiple projects. Office based in Newport News. Must be willing to travel within Hampton Roads to Central VA.
What You'll Do
- Lead the estimating process for mechanical construction projects, including plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and related systems
- Develop detailed cost estimates, bid proposals, and project budgets
- Manage multiple bids simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
- Review and validate estimates, including labor, materials, and production rates
- Collaborate with owners, engineers, general contractors, and internal teams to resolve technical and scope-related questions
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare complete estimates
- Monitor market trends, material pricing, and labor costs to ensure competitive positioning
- Support preconstruction efforts and participate in project handoff to operations
What You Bring
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical estimating or related field
- Strong background in plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and industrial systems
- Proven experience managing complex bids and delivering accurate estimates
- Proficiency in estimating software (AutoBid preferred) and strong Excel skills
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience in industrial or large-scale commercial construction
- Leadership experience mentoring or guiding junior estimators
