Position Overview
The General Manager is responsible for the overall performance, leadership, and profitability of the Virginia business unit. This role has full accountability for operations, sales, financial performance, safety, and people leadership. The General Manager partners closely with executive leadership and serves as the primary driver of business growth, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
This position is ideal for a proven leader with deep industry knowledge who can balance strategic planning with hands-on operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Business & Financial Leadership
- Assume full responsibility for profit and loss (P&L) performance of the business unit.
- Develop and execute annual operating plans, budgets, and growth strategies to achieve revenue, margin, and cash flow targets.
- Monitor financial performance, job costing, backlog, and forecasts; take corrective action as needed.
Operations & Service Delivery
- Oversee day-to-day operations including project execution, service delivery, dispatch, and field productivity.
- Ensure consistent operational processes, internal controls, policies, and procedures across the business unit.
- Optimize scheduling and dispatch operations to ensure efficient technician utilization and timely customer service.
Sales & Customer Growth
- Actively participate in business development, key account management, and strategic sales initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Support estimating, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations to ensure profitable growth.
People & Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop managers, supervisors, and field leadership teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with HR on workforce planning, talent development, performance management, and succession planning.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Oversee safety programs, reporting, and compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Minimize legal, financial, and operational risk through strong controls and proactive management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
Vendor & Partner Management
- Negotiate pricing, programs, and terms with key vendors and subcontractors.
- Evaluate supplier performance to ensure quality, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong desire and demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and inspire teams.
- Industry experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical, electrical, or related construction/services fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of senior leadership or general management experience in a related industry.
- Minimum of 3+ years of direct P&L responsibility, including budgeting and financial oversight.
- Proven success in business-to-business services sales and customer relationship management.
- Demonstrated operational discipline, decision-making ability, and long-term role stability.
Compensation
- This is a full-time, salaried position.
- The role includes a base salary that is competitive within the Southeast Virginia market, commensurate with experience.
- In addition, the position is eligible for an annual incentive opportunity tied to overall company and business unit performance.

- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including offices, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor job sites.
- Ability to use standard office equipment and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting job sites.
