Position Overview
The Director is responsible for leading and growing the commercial HVAC APG function in partnership with the sales team. This role focuses on people leadership, sales enablement, process improvement, and business development rather than pure engineering design. The position supports project pursuit, execution, and long-term customer relationships by ensuring the APG team is aligned, resourced, and operating efficiently.
This role is ideal for someone who has grown up in the commercial HVAC industry and understands both the technical and business sides of the work. The successful candidate brings hands-on knowledge of HVAC systems and components, enjoys working closely with sales and contractors, and is motivated by building teams and driving growth.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, hire, train, and develop APG team members supporting commercial sales and projects
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels to support sales volume and strategic growth goals
• Provide coaching, performance management, and ongoing development for the team
Sales & Business Partnership
• Partner closely with sales leadership and account managers to support project pursuits and awarded work
• Participate in weekly project and pipeline reviews to align APG resources with sales priorities
• Serve as a subject-matter expert to support sales conversations, system applications, and product positioning
• Act as a champion for key commercial product lines to drive growth and market adoption
Process Ownership & Continuous Improvement
• Own and improve APG processes including quoting, submittals, project tracking, warranties, and issue resolution
• Establish clear workflows and accountability to support consistent, high-quality execution
• Identify gaps or inefficiencies and implement practical, scalable solutions
Technical & Industry Support
• Provide guidance on commercial HVAC system applications and component selection
• Support contractors and internal teams with startup, troubleshooting, and jobsite best practices
• Ensure team knowledge stays current with manufacturer requirements, safety standards, and industry trends
Training & Collaboration
• Develop and deliver training for internal teams related to products, processes, and best practices
• Support onboarding of new sales and APG team members
• Collaborate across departments to ensure alignment and shared success
Travel & Engagement
• Travel within the assigned territory as needed to support sales, customers, and job sites
• Attend manufacturer training, plant visits, and industry events as required
Qualifications
• Proven experience in the commercial HVAC industry with strong product and application knowledge
• Background supporting sales teams, contractors, or commercial projects
• Prior people leadership or team management experience preferred
• Strong business acumen with the ability to balance technical knowledge and commercial priorities
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
Preferred Background
• Experience as a sales engineer, applications specialist, field service leader, project support leader, or commercial sales professional
• Hands-on exposure to HVAC systems, startups, troubleshooting, or contractor support
• Experience improving processes and scaling team support functions
Bachelor degree
