Job description:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Building Automation (BAS) / HVAC Controls Engineer to take a leading role in the design, programming, and implementation of building control systems across commercial and institutional facilities. You’ll play a key part in delivering high-performing, energy-efficient automation solutions that optimize HVAC, lighting, and environmental systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with deep HVAC knowledge who enjoys working across all phases of a project, from design and programming to commissioning and client support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and commission BAS systems for HVAC and facility automation (Johnson Controls, Siemens, Tridium Niagara, Honeywell, etc.)
- Develop control sequences and logic to optimize system performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort
- Integrate HVAC equipment, sensors, and third-party systems via BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other communication protocols
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers, and field technicians to ensure successful system delivery
- Support troubleshooting, tuning, and ongoing optimization of existing BAS/HVAC systems
- Prepare and maintain project documentation including control drawings, network layouts, and sequence of operations
What You Bring
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in Building Automation or HVAC Controls Engineering
- Strong understanding of HVAC system operation (AHUs, chillers, boilers, VAVs, RTUs, etc.) and related mechanical systems
- Proficiency in programming and commissioning BAS platforms (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Distech, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell EBI)
- Ability to interpret and create mechanical drawings, control schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Experience with field startup, troubleshooting, and tuning of HVAC control systems
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional project work
Nice to Have
- Experience designing or optimizing control strategies for energy management or retro-commissioning projects
- Familiarity with scripting or custom graphics within BAS platforms (Niagara AX/N4 preferred)
- Understanding of ASHRAE standards, control sequences, and building energy codes
- Background in system integration, lighting control, or access control systems
