An HVAC superintendent is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems on construction or facility management projects. **Key responsibilities**
- Project management: Oversee project timelines, budgets, and logistics for HVAC installations.
- Team leadership: Supervise and train HVAC technicians, set performance expectations, and manage personnel issues.
- Coordination and communication: Act as the primary point of contact between the client, general contractor, and internal teams.
- Technical oversight: Review project specifications, shop drawings, and submittals to ensure all technical requirements are met.
- Safety and compliance: Enforce safety regulations, ensure compliance with national, state, and local codes, and manage inspections.
- Quality control: Conduct quality walk-throughs, ensure proper installation methods are followed, and manage the commissioning and validation of systems.
- Resource management: Schedule and coordinate the delivery of materials, equipment, and subcontractors, and manage the inventory of tools and supplies.
**Required skills and qualifications**
- Experience: Extensive experience in the commercial HVAC and construction industry, with a minimum of 5 years often required.
- Licensing and certifications: Valid driver's license and relevant HVAC licenses (e.g., Journeyman) are often required. An OSHA 10 certification is also frequently requested.
- Technical knowledge: Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, and in-depth knowledge of HVAC installation, repair, maintenance, and system design.
