Job Summary
The HVAC Engineer at OneH2 will be a hands-on technical role, working directly with our equipment to design, optimize, test, and support advanced chiller systems for both mobile and stationary hydrogen applications.
This role combines field and shop-floor work with engineering analysis-commissioning systems, troubleshooting performance issues, refining plumbing, and HVAC layouts, and implementing practical solutions in real time.
The engineer will own the full lifecycle of these systems, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and quality standards while driving continuous improvement, reliability, and scalability across our fleet.
Responsibilities
Chiller System Design and Optimization:
- Work with equipment such as chillers, AHUs, cooling towers, and pumps to design and improve chiller plumbing for both mobile and stationary applications.
- Consider environmental factors, on-road vibrations, and the need for quick connections between chiller components during the design process.
- Perform heat load calculations to select optimal heat exchanger designs and chiller operation parameters, ensuring efficiency and reliability of the systems.
Development Of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Create comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for chiller equipment, ensuring that all operational, safety, and maintenance guidelines are followed.
Testing And Commissioning
- Develop detailed testing protocols to evaluate the performance of chiller systems under varying conditions.
- Oversee the commissioning of chiller equipment, ensuring that it meets performance specifications and quality standards before delivery to clients.
Technical Direction And Team Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and direction to drafters, model makers, technicians, and programmers.
- Ensure the timely implementation of product or process improvements, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering problems and maintain high-quality standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Monitor the performance of existing chiller systems and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, durability, and ease of operation.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements to ensure that our systems remain at the forefront of technological innovation.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, including chillers, AHUs, cooling towers, and pumps.
- 5+ years of hands-on plumbing experience.
- Ability to perform heat load calculations and select appropriate heat exchanger designs for efficiency and reliability.
- Proven experience developing detailed SOPs for operations, safety, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for chiller systems.
- Expertise in creating robust testing protocols to assess system performance under various operating conditions.
- Hands-on experience overseeing commissioning processes to ensure equipment meets performance specifications and quality standards.
- Strong collaboration skills to assist drafters, model makers, technicians, and programmers.
- Ability to drive product and process improvements through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent in solving complex technical and engineering problems while maintaining high-quality standards.
- The role will be based 50% on-site in Hickory, NC and 50% travel.
