Commercial HVAC Estimator

The Commercial HVAC Estimator is responsible for all aspects of HVAC estimation including take-offs, pricing, and producing final estimates and/or budgets based upon conceptual documents, schematics, design development, design build, and construction documents. The Estimator will compile accurate estimates for potential commercial and industrial HVAC projects, interface with other project team members, and complete a smooth hand-off to Project Management once contracts are executed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Estimate HVAC installation in both engineered and design/build commercial and industrial projects
- Accurately estimate HVAC systems using computer estimating systems and other related software
- Estimate and sell packaged rooftop HVAC equipment, split systems, Cambridge and MUA systems, piping and small chillers on occasion, and new/revised duct systems including VAVs
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, CSI spec sections, and proposals to prepare estimates
- Perform detailed take-offs for equipment and material pricing
- Evaluate project critical path, lift requirements (boom vs. scissor, rental durations, etc.), and vendor needs
- Distribute bid requests to all applicable vendors and subcontractors, and work with vendors beyond initial estimating phase
- Review project details with Project Manager/Estimator and ensure all job-specific instructions are communicated to field personnel
- Contribute to both pre- and post-estimating efforts to ensure accurate budgeting and execution
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent trade experience considered
- 5+ years of HVAC or construction estimating experience with proven track record
- Strong knowledge of ductwork (preferred, but can train)
- Experience in related trades (plumbing, electrical, or general contracting) a plus
- Previous experience as a Project Engineer, General Contractor estimator, or similar role welcomed
- Familiarity with RS Means cost data and scheduling/estimating tools
- Ability to read plans, schedules, and charts and ask clarifying questions
- Knowledge of industry guidelines, installation procedures, tools, equipment, and materials
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check
