Position Summary
The HVAC Department Manager is responsible for supporting and leading our commercial HVAC field operations. This position routinely works directly with technicians, dispatch, customers, members of the sales team, office support personnel, other managers, and company leadership to ensure customer satisfaction while meeting department goals and objectives. This role has direct reports. You’ll work mostly independently, with regular team collaboration, and reports to a direct supervisor.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Provides technical leadership and support to HVAC field technicians
- Assists technicians with advanced installation, troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair strategies
- Serves as the primary technical resource for complex commercial HVAC systems
- Performs daily field operations and technician performance oversight
- Supports scheduling, workforce planning, and workload management
- Conducts job-site visits to assist crews and ensure quality workmanship
- Reviews service documentation, repair recommendations, and completed work orders
- Develop and implement technical training programs for field personnel
- Mentor technicians and support career development opportunities
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains technicians as required to meet workload demands, and company or customer expectations and requirements.
- Ensures compliance with company safety standards and industry best practices
- Promotes a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Works closely with customers to address technical concerns and provide solutions
- Supports department growth through operational excellence and exceptional customer service

Requirements
Education/Experience/Training Requirements
Required
- 10+ years of direct commercial HVAC industry experience
- Advanced knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, controls, and troubleshooting
- Strong installation, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supervising technicians
- Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, customers, and management
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction
Preferred
- Experience managing HVAC teams or departments
- Familiarity with building automation and control systems
- EPA Certification and applicable trade licenses
- Experience with service management software and mobile field service platforms
- Technical certifications from industry manufacturers or organizations
Licensing Requirements
- Valid class D driver’s license and commercial insurability required.

- Ability to travel between business locations and job sites up to 100% of the time.
- Ability to work a non-standard schedule including on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands
Stationary Position Frequently required to perform work seated at a desk for 6-8 hours and maintain a stationary position in a vehicle for 2-4 hours while traveling between jobsites.
Move Regularly walks through indoor and outdoor jobsites, including uneven surfaces.
Operate Frequently uses commercial vehicles, power tools, mobile devices, computers and office equipment. Requires repetitive finger motion, hand dexterity, elbow bending and prolong outward and upward arm extension.
Ascend/Descend Frequently required to ascend/descend stairs and ladders to access all areas of equipment and jobsites including rooftops.
Positions self Frequently required to bend, stoop and access small, confined spaces.
Communicate Frequently communicates with internal and external customers using spoken word and the ability to perceive the natural sounds of normal speaking levels. Must be able to exchange accurate information through oral and written communication and make fine discriminations in sound. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Observe/Inspect Uses visual acuity at near, far, and peripheral distances, and must be able to adjust focus. Frequently uses vision to operate vehicles, tools, equipment, and to read technical information.
Transport Frequently lifts, pushes, or carries up to 50 pounds and occasionally more than 75 pounds.
Exposed to May work near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to loud noise, vibration, dust, low light conditions, and extreme temperatures, including outdoor weather. Must be able to wear all required PPE.
