Job description:
The Mechanical Manager oversees all mechanical systems supporting data center operations. This includes insuring optimal cooling performance, energy efficiency, and system reliability. This role manages maintenance, systems upgrades, and operational strategies for HVAC and cooling infrastructure.
Pay Rate: Up to $140,000 per year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage operations and maintenance of chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps, and BAS.
- Develop and execute mechanical maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Monitor thermal performance and optimize cooling efficiency across the facility
- Support mechanical design reviews, commissioning, and capacity planning
- Lead mechanical incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, EPA, and local mechanical codes
- Ensure staff operate and maintain site-critical Engineering systems and equipment that supply the facility with heat, utility and conditioned power, ventilation, air conditioning and other environmental and critical systems in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, industry best practices, and manufacturers specifications.
- Supervises and lead assigned personnel, maintaining a safe and efficient workplace .
- Support staff with the engineering systems and drawings and equipment, including boilers, chillers, HV AC equipment, electrical distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, etc.
- Monitor and control building equipment; operate facility's Building Automation System
- Provide supervision to staff performing the maintenance on systems and equipment to include such items as, but not limited to, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handling units, and water chemistry.
- Make periodic inspections of all engineering systems and equipment and monitoring equipment operations, maintain equipment operating logs and operational reports as required.
- Proficiently use test equipment and devices pertinent to building operating systems and analyze test results.
- Record and report all faults, deficiencies, and other unusual occurrences. Respond to emergency situations and perform any and all tasks necessary for the protection of occupants and property.
- Ensure staff under minimal supervision, perform mission critical environment
- maintenance activities.
- Operate and maintain critical systems such as HV AC, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, batteries, switchgear, life safety and building automated systems, and utility systems.
- Ensure site Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are updated and maintained .
- Ensure operating staff perform in house training and are up to date with all facility operational requirements.
- Ensure a proactive approach is taken and make recommendations for improving facility operations when required
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Equivalent experience may be accepted in place of a degree
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Tier III data centter operations
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in facilities maintenance with thorough understanding of electrical/ HVAC systems, controls, generators, and life safety systems
- Top Secret Security Clearance
- EPA Universal certification, preferred
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload
- Excellent ability to commmunicate with a variety of stakeholders including AFM staff and government personnel
- Strong HVAC and controls experiences as related to: Chillers, Boilers, AHUs, Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRACs), VA V's, FCU's and BAS Controls.
- Knowledge of fire and life safety systems as well as sprinkler systems
- Experience working in multi-building campuses
- Experience with automation control systems such as BAS, Niagra Tridium, JACE, Public Address, and Computerized Lighting Systems
