IPS Australia is now seeking an experienced and motivated
HVAC Engineer to join our growing Melbourne based team.
The HVAC Engineer plays a vital role in the planning, design and delivery of engineering projects within the business unit. This position contributes to the development and coordination of HVAC and utilities systems, supporting both standard and specialized design solutions.
Working across multiple concurrent projects, the HVAC Engineer collaborates with cross functional teams to deliver high quality, compliant systems for clients in the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Sciences, and Laboratory sectors. The role offers exposure to technically challenging environments and the opportunity to support innovative, high performance facility designs.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare design computations, quality estimates and develops probable cost estimates for the smaller projects within the business unit.
- Develop scopes of work for mechanical designs (HVAC/Utilities) based on preliminary review and client meetings.
- Assist with the preparation of engineering studies and schematic designs for new HVAC/Utilities systems and analyze the operation of existing systems.
- Make calculations using engineering formulas and skills for design such as heating and cooling loads, equipment sizing, etc.
- Select equipment based on experience and develop equipment schedules.
- Research code issues and ask relevant questions of code officials and other design professionals. Support the development of Fire Bureau and FER solutions.
- Review the work of the project design teams, checks the progress of the work, and alerts Project Managers of scope changes or additional services.
- Provide drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings.
- Coordinates all aspects of project document completion within IPS, externally with clients and with other relevant design professionals.
- Report on design budgets based on the project scope as needed.
- Promotes the use of IPS design and production standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Significant proven mechanical design experience (HVAC and Utilities) within Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Sciences or Laboratory industries (industry experience is required).
- An openness to travel (within Australia, New Zealand and overseas when required).
- Bachelors of Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) is strongly preferred.
- BLA sign off certified
- HVAC and/or Utilities design experience.
- Experience working with computer operations for engineering design programs and computer aided drafting (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.
