About The Role
We are seeking an experienced
HVAC Construction Estimator to support commercial and industrial mechanical projects from pre-construction through closeout. This is a
customer-facing, high-impact role that blends estimating expertise with field involvement, relationship management, and project execution.
The position offers meaningful exposure to clients, general contractors, and internal leadership, along with a
strong variable compensation component tied directly to project performance.
Position Overview
The HVAC Construction Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive estimates while actively supporting projects once awarded. This role is both
in the office and in the field, working directly with customers, engineers, vendors, and project managers to ensure projects are properly scoped, priced, and executed profitably.
This is a senior-level role designed for someone who enjoys
owning projects, engaging clients, and being accountable for financial outcomes, not just producing bids.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Pre-Construction
- Prepare detailed estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical projects, including HVAC, refrigeration, sheet metal, controls, and hydronic systems
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost analyses
- Size and select equipment, ductwork, and piping for inclusion in project estimates
- Develop alternates, value-engineering options, and pricing strategies
- Work directly with customers, general contractors, and engineers to clarify scope, assumptions, and execution approach
Customer & Field Engagement
- Conduct facility walkthroughs and site assessments to confirm existing conditions
- Participate in customer meetings, jobsite coordination meetings, and pre-construction discussions
- Serve as a technical and commercial point of contact during pre-construction and early execution phases
Project Support & Execution - Support awarded projects through all phases, including:
- Submittal preparation, review, and coordination
- Purchase order creation, vendor negotiation, and material tracking
- Scheduling and manpower coordination with project management leadership
- Change order and bulletin estimating, pricing, and tracking
- Permit support and compliance with applicable codes and regulations
- Coordination with subcontractors (cranes, rigging, specialty trades)
- Assist with project closeout documentation, including O&M manuals and final cost reconciliation
- Help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with quality standards
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC estimating and/or mechanical construction project management
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, sheet metal, controls, and hydronic systems
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with customers and project stakeholders
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple bids and projects simultaneously
- Self-directed and accountable, with a strong ownership mindset
