Mechanical & Plumbing Estimator (Commercial Construction)

Compensation: $80,000 – $120,000 annually (based on experience) + benefits
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical & Plumbing Estimator to join our growing construction team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects across healthcare, education, office, and industrial sectors.
You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and operations to analyze drawings, develop material and labor takeoffs, solicit subcontractor/vendor pricing, and deliver winning bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical (HVAC, piping, sheet metal) and plumbing systems
- Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications
- Review project documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities
- Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Develop labor projections and production rates
- Prepare bid summaries, value engineering options, and proposals
- Support turnover meetings with operations after project award
- Maintain historical cost data and estimating templates
Qualifications
Required:
- 3+ years of commercial mechanical/plumbing estimating experience (or equivalent field experience)
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing construction
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specs
- Proficiency in Excel and estimating software (e.g., QuoteSoft, Trimble, FastPIPE, Accubid, or similar)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
Preferred:
- Experience with healthcare, institutional, or large commercial projects
- Knowledge of labor productivity and union/open shop environments
- Experience working with BIM or coordination drawings
