Who we are...
At Ecosystem we believe we should be accountable for results. That’s why we've integrated engineering and construction, seeing our projects through from design concept to implementation and commissioning. And that's how we can efficiently solve complex energy and decarbonization challenges in the built environment. Here are some of the projects we've been working on recently in the US: San Diego Padres Stadium, Con Edison: Utility Thermal Energy Network; Museum of Arts and Design.
Why this role matters...
In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with clients and stakeholders to design innovative - and at times unconventional- solutions that address the most pressing challenges in sustainable construction and energy retrofits. You’ll take full ownership of MEP and HVAC design management across each project, from concept through completion. You won’t just design systems on paper; you’ll see your ideas brought to life in real buildings, gaining firsthand insight into implementation and experiencing the tangible impact of your work. You’ll also play a critical role in monitoring performance post-completion, verifying energy savings, and ensuring our multimillion-dollar solutions deliver measurable results for our clients. This is an opportunity for engineers who want to own the design process end-to-end, thrive with autonomy, and are driven by the challenge of shaping complex energy systems that transform how buildings consume energy!
What you will do... - Act as the single point of ownership for assigned projects, leading both project and design management
- Serve as lead engineer, managing project timelines, workstreams, budgets, and mentor junior team members while ensuring effective collaboration with MEP firms and client stakeholders
- Review and enhance MEP drawings and designs to optimize system performance and reduce project cost
- Gather and analyze client energy bills to identify potential energy savings based on current energy rates and the building’s energy use intensity (EUI)
- Analyze mechanical/ electrical/ control drawings and perform site surveys to understand the operation of the building
- Develop energy conservation measures based on clients’ needs and financial parameters
- Develop and perform calculations using a combination of software and simulations of potential energy savings from the proposed design
- Select equipment based on energy performance
- Prepare project construction budgets and develop financial models
- Provide technical assistance to the Construction Manager during the construction phase of the project
- Monitor project performance to ensure attainment of anticipated energy savings
- Develop technical concepts and associated written documentation required by the Client Acquisition Team and support the Sales Team in identifying clients’ needs
- Participate in internal and external meetings/presentations and nurture client relationships
Your profile...- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Physics Engineering
- 5–10 years of experience in design engineering or mechanical systems design, ideally within MEP/HVAC projects
- Proven track record contributing to large-scale design-build projects (>$1M), with growing ownership of design scope and accountability
- Strong ability to translate theoretical expertise and technical knowledge into innovative, practical solutions through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Skilled in drafting technical reports, presenting proposals, and engaging directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholders
- Possesses a solution-oriented mindset with the flexibility to adapt designs to unique project challenges, and experience reviewing and approving shop drawings
- Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory compliance requirements
- Proficiency with relevant design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar)
- Exposure to energy efficiency, sustainability, or decarbonization projects (strong asset)
- On-site construction experience and field coordination (asset)
- Knowledge of electrical engineering design principles (asset)
What Ecosystem offers… - End-to-end project ownership: take full accountability of projects from design to delivery and completion, with the autonomy to make decisions and see the results of your designs come to life
