Job
Overview:
The HVAC Service and Install
Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of
heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in residential,
commercial, and industrial settings. The role requires expertise in troubleshooting,
system installation, and performing preventative maintenance. The ideal
candidate will have strong technical skills, excellent customer service
abilities, and a commitment to safety and compliance with local codes and
regulations.
Key
Responsibilities:
Installation:
- Install new HVAC systems, including air conditioners,
furnaces, heat pumps, ductwork, and thermostats in homes, offices, and/or industrial
settings.
- Perform full system replacements and upgrades as
needed, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and local
building codes.
- Layout and install complex piping systems for air
conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems but not limited to.
- Measure and cut ductwork, install insulation, and mount
systems to walls, roofs, and foundations but not limited to.
Service
and Repair:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with HVAC systems,
such as mechanical failures, electrical faults, or refrigerant leaks.
- Repair or replace defective components, such as
compressors, fans, electrical wiring, and control panels.
- Recharge refrigerant, test pressures, and ensure
systems meet efficiency and environmental standards.
- Conduct performance tests to ensure systems are
operating correctly and efficiently after installation or repair.
Preventative
Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance services such as cleaning
air filters, inspecting systems, lubricating mechanical parts, and
adjusting controls.
- Identify potential problems before they cause
breakdowns and recommend repairs to improve system performance.
- Provide clients with maintenance schedules and service
recommendations to ensure long-term system functionality.
Customer
Interaction:
- Communicate with customers to understand their heating
or cooling needs and provide professional advice on the best solutions.
- Explain repairs, services performed, and system
operations to customers clearly and concisely.
- Provide accurate cost estimates for repairs, new
installations, and maintenance services.
- Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality
workmanship and addressing any concerns or questions.
Safety
and Compliance:
- Follow OSHA standards, local building codes, and HVAC
regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and
adhere to safety protocols when handling refrigerants and electrical
components.
- Ensure all installations and repairs meet industry
standards and environmental guidelines for energy efficiency.
Qualifications
and Skills:
- Experience:
- Experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and
repair.
- Experience working with a variety of HVAC systems,
including residential and/or commercial units.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation, air
conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
- Proficient in diagnosing, repairing, and installing
HVAC systems, including refrigerant handling.
- Familiarity with HVAC tools, equipment, and industry
best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics,
and technical diagrams.
- Problem Solving:
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to
identify and resolve HVAC issues quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to recommend cost-effective and
energy-efficient solutions.
- Communication:
- Strong customer service skills to effectively
communicate with clients and explain technical information in a
non-technical way.
- Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate with
other technicians, contractors, and supervisors.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in various weather conditions,
confined spaces, and at heights.
- Capable of lifting and carrying heavy equipment and
tools (up to 50 lbs) and performing physical tasks such as bending,
climbing, and standing for extended periods.
Education
& Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited HVAC training program or
apprenticeship.
- State or local HVAC technician license is preferred.
- OSHA certification is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
