Garland Heating and Air Conditioning is a family owned and operated business in the DFW Area, providing Mechanical/Residential/Commercial HVAC services for nearly 73 years!
We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Head of Operations to lead and manage our HVAC contracting operations. The ideal candidate will have minimum 15 years of field experience in HVAC, including roles such as Lead Superintendent, Foreman and Project Manager.
This role demands a VERY strong understanding of HVAC systems in complex environments like industrial and commercial applications such as wastewater treatment plants, robust leadership capabilities, and master in reading plans and specifications under Division 23. The candidate should also be proficient with computer systems and project management software to streamline operational workflows.
Operational Leadership:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of HVAC projects, ensuring high-quality execution and adherence to timelines.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize efficiency and profitability.
Technical Expertise:
- Able to comprehend the Specifications and Plans per Division 23 and ensure that the equipment and operational processes correlate to the plans and specs.
- Serve as the subject matter expert in HVAC systems, including design, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Stay updated on industry advancements and integrate cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to lead and manage crews efficiently.
- Work with Engineering in submittal review both internally and externally and ask thoughtful questions and creative solutions to adhere to project requirements.
Team Management:
- Supervise and mentor superintendents, technicians, and Sheetmetal teams to maintain high performance and safety standards.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide necessary training to staff.
- Maintain up-to-date certifications and training for the team in safety standards.
Project Management:
- Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, and other contractors to ensure project specifications are met.
- Monitor project budgets and ensure cost-effectiveness without compromising quality.
- Ensure all operations comply with OSHA regulations and safety protocols.
Technology and Reporting:
- Utilize computer systems and project management software for planning, reporting, and tracking operational metrics.
- Prepare detailed reports on project progress, budgets, and team performance for executive review.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of field experience in HVAC, including roles as a Superintendent, Project Management and HVAC Technician
- Extensive experience with HVAC systems in industrial applications with chillers, chilled water piping, large scale industrial solutions focused in the water and waste-water environment would be preferred.
- Minimum 50 hour work week expected and higher during the peak flows depending on deadlines
- Up to 50% travel required within State of Texas.
- Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, project management tools, and HVAC-specific software.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage cross-functional teams effectively.
- A formal degree in Construction Management or Engineering would be highly preferred.
- Relevant certifications in HVAC such as NATE, TACLA and OSHA safety standards would be preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-million-dollar projects from start to finish.
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with Texas-specific building codes and regulations.
- Common sense approach with ability to foresee a project from bidding to completion
